Location: Royal High, Bath
Job Title: Resident Deputy Housemistress
Required from: September 2024
Contract term: Permanent
Hours: Full Time
The role:
This is an exciting position in the heart of our Sixth Form Boarding House. The role can be tailored according to your additional skills and preferences such as teaching or support staff roles, but this is not a requirement. We are looking for someone to complement the Sixth Form House Team and to lead, develop and ensure the success of a Sixth Form weekend programme. We are specialists in girls’ only boarding, with a highly experienced Boarding Team and we offer a warm welcoming community in an environment where girls’ individuality is truly nurtured.
The purpose of this role is:
To be responsible for the general welfare and personal development of the boarders in Gloucester House, our Sixth Form Boarding House in accordance with the school policies and regulations provided by the National Minimum Standards for Boarding.
This is a residential boarding role: you will have 48 hours off duty in the working week and will be expected to work alongside the Housemistress during the day and evenings in the Boarding House, except where teaching or other School commitments take you out of the House. With responsibility for leading and running the Sixth Form weekend activity programme, you will be required to work weekends. All duties and overnight on call duties will be designated by the Director of Boarding.
The successful candidate will be:
• someone who has experience within boarding or within a pastoral role in a boarding school environment
• sensitive to the needs of boarders, including cultural and linguistic sensitivities for overseas students
• someone who enjoys working with young people in a boarding environment and have an appetite for revisiting their own practice and taking on new ideas and initiatives
• someone who has a good sense of humour, stamina and resilience, who enjoys rising to the challenges inherent in a boarding environment
• has ideas and will ensure that boarders in the Sixth Form successfully participate and enjoy a varied weekend activity programme.
